In my opinion, I do not believe that the community is a safe place to live. Most people might feel that the community is a safe place to stay where people can live with their families free of worry, but in fact this isn’t true. Despite what some people might think, it is not a safe nor healthy place to live as your freedom has been stripped from you, you’ve lost your individuality, and your whole life is planned for you.

Freedom is a very important thing to have because it gives your mind the ability to develop and gives you a sense of control. First, freedom is a necessity because; it gives you the power to do what you want. In The Giver, Jonas was curious about what was behind the walls of their solitude. He wasn’t allowed to leave even though his mind was wandering with questions. If they were free, he would be able to silence his curiosity, and venture past the barrier. If they were allowed to do this, it would not only be good to calm his curiosity, it would be healthy for his mind. Next, freedom is a mandatory thing to have in your daily life because; your imagination is not provoked as much as it would be, if you had no knowledge beyond your limits. Your imagination is a very good thing to have and use, but sometimes it can get out of hand. In The Giver, when Jonas finds out about the past, he is eager to engage himself with it, but after finding out that he is still not allowed to seek the knowledge he wants, his imagination goes wild and encourages him to do crazy things. Finally, I believe that the only sane option is to have freedom, because without freedom people will do crazy things in an attempt to get their way. If someone wanted to visit somebody else , but they were restricted the ability to do so, they would most likely rebel against the the rules to get what they want. People are not meant to be caged up like animals and if you strip them of their freedom, that’s exactly what you’re doing.

Every person has unique qualities about them that makes them individual and special, if you take that away, its equivalent to taking away their soul. Primarily, individuality is an extremely vital character trait that oneself is made up of. People tend to put labels on others no matter what, it's just human nature, but being individual seems like a pretty fair label to me. In The Giver, Jonas is the one of the only children with light coloured eyes. If they were allowed to speak their minds, he would be labeled as individual. Secondarily, being special is equally as required as being individual. In The Giver, being special and having special qualities is how their jobs are chosen, but I don't think that they are given enough room to show their true self, for the Committee of Elders to make a conscious decision for their assignment. Thirdly, your individuality is your personality, likes, and dislikes. These are the qualities that make everybody different and give them the ability to feel emotions, and have their own feelings. If you don’t have your individuality, you don’t have
