The Hindu
This edition of The Hindu (January 19, 2013) had five development/ environment stories, mostly in the State/Region sections of the newspaper.
One story was on how the state was coming out with a new solar policy, mapping out plans for setting up solar parks. Another story was about a study which found that taller windmills can produce more electricity. There was also a story on education in rural areas - about how the enrolment has improved, but reading skills of children leave a lot to be desired. One other story was about how effluents from Udupi Power Corp Ltd entered a river and affected fish in the water, and subsequently the life of fishermen. They were promised compensation, but UPCL hadn't released funds yet, and a sangha was seeking relief for fishermen.
There weren't as many "developmental" stories as you'd expect from The Hindu. None of the stories on the front page of this edition was developmental (or at least, what I would call developmental), but the other pages dedicated quite a bit of space to these stories.
Deccan Herald
This particular issue of DH (January 15, 2013) had five stories in development/environment, again, mostly in the local pages.
A story on funds for development of government colleges was on Page 2, another story was on how state was planning to reimburse travel expenses to of HIV patients visiting treatment centres from far places made it to Page 3(Not too sure I'd call this developmental, though). A story on Page 4 talked about RTE - how students were arbitrarily selected, and how sometimes admissions of those in the 25 percent quota got cancelled as they graduated from one class to the next. Another story was on how India moves closer to "polio end-game". A story on the national page was on how scientists had found a gas released from the oceans that may play a significant role in the destruction of the ozone layer.
Again, no developmental/environmental stories on the front page. Other pages carried these kind of stories, but seemed slightly smaller when compared to The Hindu.
