The importance of a College Education
ENG 121
October 23, 2011
The importance of a college education is a very serious achievement and an honor to receive. It's an opportunity that many ancestors of my family did not have the change to obtain. There are many reasons why one may decide to return to school, but for me it's really simple. Time has allowed me to vision unknown possibilities that will require patience and determination. Building a future for my family and overcoming obstacles all play a part in getting a college education. The reason for wanting a college education is to provide a better life and financial growth.
The reason why I decided to return to school were for two reasons. My father had to drop out of school, when he was in the seventh grade. He dropped out to take care of his parents and later served in World War II. I look up to my father for sacrificing his education to help his family. I will be the first in my generation line to have gone to college and graduate. My father was the one who taught me to add, multiple, divide and subtract. He always told me how important education was and the need to allow my mind to digest and store as much as knowledge as I could.
The second reason is to make a foundation for the other generations to follow. My nieces and nephews look up to me more and more each day. I have become a better person because of them and want to show them the examples and life lessons that their grandfather shared with me. In order for me to up lift and promote how important it is for everyone to have an education. I have to lead them with examples. If a preacher, preaches and do not follow his own teachings would you continue to listen. I know I would not so receiving my education is far more important than anything else.
Besides promoting education to my family there are other benefits of obtaining a college degree. Obtaining a college degree will benefit my financial state of being, by providing me with the knowledge to move up in the career I want to be in. In this day in time companies will not even look at your application if you do not have a least a bachelor's degree. They may accept associates degrees, but most would prefer a bachelor's.
I do have obstacles to overcome so I can successfully complete my degree program. My main obstacle is improving my writing skills. "Some people seem to write so beautifully" (Sole, 2010 pg 1.1). I am not one who can write without having problems. When it comes to writing, it's like doing homework before I can conquer a paper. In high school I use to cry when I would find out that I had to write a paper. "The process of writing is similar to the process of creating
