The Laughing Sutra Paper
In the book The Laughing Sutra the author uses three different religions that are intertwined into the story Buddhism, Hinduism, and Confucianism. The author through out the story uses different beliefs from these religions like in Confucianism one of the many beliefs is that a person has essential goodness. Hsun-ching traveled to America just for wei-ching so that he could obtain the scrolls which expressed that he had essential goodness inside of him because he went out of his own way and risked everything for one person to have the Laughing Sutra scrolls. Through out the story hsun-ching cares for a litte boy who went deaf after falling over a waterfall. Hsun-ching treats this kid with respect and honor which is another big belief in Confucianism and everything went a little smoother.
Buddhism is centered around the four noble truths which believe life is suffering and the end to suffering is found in the eightfold path of righteous views, speech, conduct, effort, livelihood, mindfulness, meditation, and aspirations. In the begging of the book there is a boy who is born with big ear lobs which in the Buddhist religion show of great intelligence and great fourtune. When Wei-Ching is living as a Buddhist monk he is forced to live with badically nothing which is a big part of the religion and he also has dedicated himself to transcript the scrolls which shows how he is dedicated to his religion.
The other religion that is shown in the book is Hinduism, which is the belief that the universe has an endless cycle other belief, is that there is reincarnation.
