In 1859 John D. Rockefeller started one of the greatest monopolies of the progressive
era. The Standard Oil Company grew to dominate the oil industry and became one of the
first big trust in the United States. In 1870 Rockefeller founded the Standard Oil Company and
aggressively ran it until he officially retired. His contribution to the business society is easily
noted by today's business rules and regulation that he has created. Rockefeller is said to be the
richest man and is the first to be worth more than billion dollars His achievements were
greatly assisted by his mother and father who encouraged him to succeed in society. John D.
grew up with a father who was known for his shoddy business, frauds, and dishonesty Despite
his near monopoly of the oil business in the US, aggressive competitive practices of the company
led to the passing of anti monopoly law.
The Life History of Rockefellers
John D. Rockefeller was born on July 8, 1839 in Richford, New York. His father named
William Avery Rockefeller owned farm property and traded in many goods, including
lumber and patent medicines. And his mother Eliza Rockefeller taught John how to save,
work, and give to charities. John is the second of six children, but one of the twins died at the age
of two. John was born in a small farmhouse near Richford, New York. Later his family moved to
a larger home outside Moravia on the shores of Lake Owasco. John attended an excellent
secondary school, Owego Academy, he learned how to write essays, and give speeches. He was
not a outstanding student in writing and speeches, but he was very good at math. In 1853 the
family went on a train to Strongsville, Ohio. William Rockefeller moved the family to live with
