Michael Jordan is one of the most iconic figures in the world because of the ability he possessed on the basketball court but he became a better person off the court from the values that his family instilled in him while he was a kid growing up. He was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. His mother Deloris worked at a bank and his father James worked at and electric plant. He also had two brothers, Larry and James Jr. and two sisters, Deloris and Roslyn. So in his senior year he tried out for the varsity team and made it and eventually during his senior year would commit to the University of North Carolina to play for Dean Smith.

He is recognized though out the world as an outstanding athlete but he might be better known for the person who he became though out his life. Not only is he a world class athlete he is better remembered for the person he is today because of his parents. His parents moved him out of Brooklyn to get him out of the ghetto and the tough streets so that he would have the chance to grow up a normal child and have the best chance to succeed in life, little did they know that moving their family from Brooklyn would be the best decision that they made for the children's life. They decided on Wilmington, North Carolina, it was a small town in the south and it appealed to them as a place that their children could
