An article written to inform readers of a federal revised legislative law to stop companies from selling student data or advertising to minors. Simon states that currently most of the data is unprotected. Simon writes exactly hat changes the president is trying to implement. Companies will have to state what type of information they are collecting and parents will be able to review the information collected on their children.

Politico is a large political journalism organization, located in Virginia. The author Stephanie Simon is the senior education reporter. Simon won the Education Writers Award in 2013. Not only has Simon dedicated her work to education, but she was also a teacher as well and has multiple views on said situations.

This source was extremely helpful. This article answered a main concern: Is there an age limit when it comes to companies taking and selling personal information? According to this article there isn’t. There needs to be harsher federal regulations in place when it comes to minors and data mining. Also, parents need to be aware of what information is being collected from their children and how they can opt out if needed.

The article talks about different ways that data mining is not only affecting children, but parents and teachers as well. The writer believes that different tests and structures of education for children, are in fact data mining. Leo Hohmann wrote the article to stress the opinion and views of parents and teachers in regards to children. Data mining and education can be put into the wrong hands. This article stresses how parents should have a choice in what takes place in their children’s lives. Information collected during a child’s youth, should not place who are they for the future.

This article was posted on World Net Daily’s website. The website is based on conservative opinions. Although it is based on the opinon of the reporters, they do state their articles on facts and truths. The information found on this site is reliable, but most are bias articles.
