The Sale of Cigarettes
Smoking is a widespread behavior around the world. It has spread through all cultures and societies and represents big business for the tobacco companies. Cigarettes, in fact, can be bought in most supermarkets or in a local store. A smoker can get cigarettes at any time day or night. Some people argue that the sale of cigarettes should continue as it has. However, the sale of cigarettes should be banned.
Opponents of the view that cigarettes should be banned argue that banning cigarettes will lead to an increase in crime. If cigarettes are banned, this will lead to their illegal sale. As a consequence, this would lead to a rise in criminal activity. Such activity would in all likelihood be conducted by large criminal organizations such as the Mafia and this may in turn introduce other dangerous criminal activity. For example, when alcohol was banned in America, Al Capone became powerful and many people were murdered before he eventually went to jail. Supporters of the view that the sale of cigarettes should be banned argue that smoking damages people's health. A person that smokes increases the likelihood of heart disease, lung problems and cancer. Take as way of an example this friend of mine. He lost his father last year to lung cancer and his aunt to a lung disease. Both of them were heavy smokers. It is a well known that smoking leads to lung cancer in particular. Non-smokers are also at risk.
Second hand smoke claims the lives of millions of people each year. Just being around people when they are smoking can lead to the same risk of such diseases as lung cancer. People also argue that the sale of cigarettes should be banned because of the burden smoking places on government spending. Governments have to spend more on health care. As so many people develop illnesses as a result of smoking, they have to seek medical attention. In most countries such costs a largely paid for by governments. Governments have to also invest more money in education. For example, the New Zealand government spends a great deal of money on educating children and teenagers about the risks of smoking.
All in all, while there is some evidence that banning the sale of cigarettes may introduce more crime, it is clear that their sale should be banned because of the health risks and the expense for governments. People should take the initiative and stop smoking now
Selling cigarettes is business that spared all over the world. Many people agree that the sale of cigarettes should be banned because it effect on smoker heath and to decrease the pressure on the governments. Other people said that it shouldn't be banned because it will increases the criminal activities
