The Shadow of Hate
Racism is such a huge problem in todays society. A lot of our history is built upon
hatred, dating back to the 1600's when Caucasian men used African Americans as slaves. Hitler
killed millions of people because they were Jews, and today we have what is known as the Ku
Klux Klan (KKK). A white supremacist group that has no problem showing their hatred for
people who are anything but white.
Have you ever seen a black male walking on the sidewalk with a baggy shirt and pants
on, along with a 'doo rag' on his head? Most people would automatically assume he was in a
gang. Have you ever stopped to think what assumptions people make when they see you for the
first time? Have you ever heard the phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover?" We as a society
need to stop judging people before getting to know them.
Webster's English dictionary defines racism as: "a belief in the superiority of some races over
others; prejudice against or hatred of other races; discriminatory behavior toward people of
another race," when in reality it is ignorance to not allow others to be individuals due to the
amount of melatonin in their skin.
I have often heard people identify other people with colors such as, the "red, referring to an Indian", the "Brown man, meaning Hispanic", the "Yellow man being Chinese, the White man being Caucasian and the "Black man, being African American."Why is everything centered around color?
