The sun was hiding behind the dark cloud. I left my home, wormed my way into a crowded, sultry bus, and dozed, leaning against a sweaty handrail. In my dream, I was lying on a river shore, free with the flow without any arduous problem. The sudden hiss of the opening door awoke me, and I noticed that it was my stop; I hurriedly rolled out of the bus. I know this is my last time going to this hospital, because my grandfather is going home after get the approval from his son, my father. Grandpa looks really healthy, he just want to stay at his house, he cannot stay any longer in this most hygienic place in the world. I can see my dad muscle tighten up, his face looks like he is perplexed and his hand is shaking when he have to sign the leaving hospital’s form.

After 3 days staying at home, my grandpa’s health drop slowly. My father force him to go back to the hospital, but his dad really stubborn. At that time, he closed his eyes for a second, took a deep breath, opened the door, pulled the door knob down as hard as he could, and leave my grandpa’s room. It feels really poignant to see my two beloved people in this complicated condition.

Starry cold night accompany me and my dad in silence, but suddenly my aunty shout and cry, “Daddy! How come you leave us? I beg you, please wake up!” We both rushed into grandpa’s room. I went inside and had to wait for a minute before I could make out my environment. It felt so dark. By the time my eyes adapted to the darkness inside, I could tell that no one was around. What time was it? And where was everyone? The house was completely and scarily quiet. The silence was unnatural. There was no sound coming from the working fridge, or ticking clock; nothing. I went to the kitchen to get some water, opened the tap and put an empty glass under it. But no water poured, not even a drop. The glass remained empty. This seemed like a complete nightmare. I thought that I must have been dreaming – my small world had become ravished by emptiness.

Day by day past really slowly. In the full of sorrow of my grandfather’s funeral, me and my dad walk into beautiful garden, with the scent of the grass. My father exhale his burden and taught me the important lesson behind this sore feeling. We have to accept the reality and move on. So, there are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm.
