a: active beginning to know Jeff is a small week little kid that doesn't necessarily neerd help with stuff but can't lift very heavy objects. After he gets back from his mother's East toddler and stronger from rowing the boat that he bought. Towards the end of the book installing strong from cropping and helping the Tillerman's with farming.
b: in the first part of the novel Jeff all does is make breakfast one morning and goes to school and one comes back and makes dinner and does the dishes in the middle of the boat after he goes to melodies for the summer does the same things usually does makes breakfast goes to school comes back makes dinner does chores but instead of doing homework or going to sleep the might play his guitar and then do his homework or go to sleep. At the end of the book Jeff does everything did in the past but at the end of school he might go to his friends help out the Tillerman's or go crabing.

d: at the beginning of the book characters don't really pay attention to Jeff while hes in school or even when hes out of school. But towards the end of the book people pay more attention to Jeff like his friends phil, andy, and dicey and her more friendly to him.

Throughout the book voigt and if uses expressions similes and metaphors to express Jeffs feelings and reactions. an example of a simile that voigt used to express Jeffs emotions and (voigt 4) "a cold and frightened feeling late all over his body like a wet blanket" she uses this simile right after jeff gets the letter from melody in the begining of the book to explain his confusion and saddness. A metaphor that Voigt uses to explain Jeff's emotions is (Voigt 106) "in his chest and stomach pain that wasn't even real as if he had been broken into thousands of different little pieces." voigt uses this metaphor right after jeff goes to melody's for the second ime right after he realizes that she doesen't love him

jeff's first school at the university he was very quite except when called on he never asked question and was very anti-social and he got good grades and turned his assignments in on time and didnt bother any body so he did well. after he came back from melody's for the first time that year his grades went downhill he went from being tolerated by his peers to almost being hated geting C's instead of A's or B's and nt trning any assignments in on time. after he came
