To Drill or Not to Drill?

I am against drilling for oil because in the quest to find more the major oil companies drill sensitive habitats and negatively affect the wildlife. Our ecosystems in areas that are being explored for oil are delicate and there is always a threat of a major environmental disaster. Recently there was an explosion on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. It pumped millions of gallons of oil into the ocean which then polluted the waters and coast line before it could be capped off. Eventually oil will become scarce and we will have to look for another form of energy. Solar, wind and water are better sources of energy to use because there is a never ending supply of sun, wind, and water if managed correctly. In doing this we will not have to pay other counties for our natural resources and it will create jobs for the local economies.

One of the habits that I currently have is that I drive my car every day. This consumes the very product that I feel needs to be replaced as an energy source. It is a common problem because alternatives are very limited and can be expensive at this time. Most products are shipped, trucked or transported by using some form of fossil fuel. We all contribute to the perpetuation of the use of fossil fuels, whether it is a load of cars being shipped from Japan or produce being trucked from another state.

I do have habits that support my opinion for going green. The easiest one is to recycle. There are many city and state programs that help regulate where and how much garbage go to the landfill. I also try to limit how much I drive to conserve gas.

I could do a lot to overcome my habits that are hindering my thoughts such as buying a more fuel efficient car, support businesses that are green, change my house to solar power, and buy more organic products. I would love to become greener myself. I may not be able to afford to go solar but I can do smaller things to help the cause.
