Chapter 1 – introduction
- Background
In recent years, more and more people were death in road accident all over the world. Road safety is a major societal issue. According to the WHO, road accident injuries caused about 1.25 million deaths worldwide in 2010. In the year 2011, more than 30,000 people died in road accident of the European Union, and for every death on Europe’s roads there are an estimated 4 permanently disabling injuries. In 2010, there are about 188 people died in road accident in Singapore, and most of people died in those accidents were motorcycle driver, rear- seat passenger and elderly pedestrians.
- Purpose
The research investigates on the reasons of road accidents in recent years.
- Sample Population
20 adults were randomly selected for the survey. The selection was made based on different reasons and conceptions.
- Method and Sources
In order to get response to this study, questionnaires were distributed to 20 adults in Red Hill MRT station.
- Research question and Hypothesis
The research hypothesis foe this research will be:
- It is hypothesized that drive with high speed may cause the road accident although the car had good safety performance.
