Before a diamond is a diamond, it is a natural mineral, the original stone. Briefly, diamond is a kind of elemental crystals composed of carbon element formed under the high pressure and temperature deeply underneath the ground. Despite thousands of years' human history, there has been a history of only hundreds years since diamonds were known to people and even shorter since the real mystery of diamonds was exposed to human beings. And before that, diamonds were merely regarded as the symbol of bravery, power, position and honor along with lots of mythical and daunting legends. But nowadays, diamonds are neither mysterious nor precious only for the nobles any more. They are trade and owned all over the world, popular among girls and women and symbol of love and eternity.
It has been confirmed that there are about 2.5 billion carats of natural diamond left in the world with the yield of Australia (40 million carats), democratic republic of Congo (20 million carats), Botswana (16 million carats), Russia (12 million carats), South Africa (9 million carats), the five countries accounted for 95% of the world's total output. In addition, Namibia, Angola is also important diamond output kingdom.
Diamond was first exploited by the Indian. Later in 1725, Brazil found large diamond mines, and it became the world's first big supplier of diamond instead of India. But after over-exploitation for 150 years, both Brazil and India tend to dry out the source, and then Africa had been the top output of diamond for a longtime before Australia found its huge diamond mines in 1980. But Africa still provides more than half diamond output of the world. Diamonds from Africa are famous for the excellent grade and big size.
