VALS Segmentation System
The VALS survey was very accurate. The description it gave about myself described me not only as a consumer but also as an individual. I was surprised to find that from just answering a few questions I would be described so well. It mentioned I am impulsive, as my financial circumstance will allow. This is very true. I'm an impulsive shopper to an extent. I know where to draw the line and always keep a mental budget in my mind. However, I don't let this stop me from getting that shopping experience I yarn for.
The results told me I was a striver. I live everyday striving to do better and better myself. When I was prompted to this page, I knew the questionnaire was very accurate. According to businessinsights.com, strivers are trendy and fun loving. They are motivated by achievement. Strivers are concerned about the opinions and concerns of others. I consider myself a striver. I'm motivated by achievement and love to reach my goals and set knew ones.
I do disagree with one of the statements about strivers. I do not let money define my success. Success is defined by finding a career where you are happy and have plenty of time to raise a family. However, they stated that strivers favor stylish products that emulate the purchases of people with greater material wealth. This is a motivation for me to get far in life. Seeing my favorite products so easily purchased by others is an instant trigger for me to work hard and "strive" to do better.
Lastly, I was described as an active consumer. This is very true. Shopping is both a social and an opportunity to demonstrate to peers their ability to buy. My hobby is shopping, as I love to say. Be it grocery shopping or even just hunting through the nearest sale rack I enjoy every second of it. I enjoy finding a deal and the newest shoes. I get gratification to share this experience with my best friend. I find us often wondering from store to store to forget our troubles, catch up on what's new, and find the best deals. My friend and I often go "out shopping". We look forward to the weekends we get away to a town with the best Macys or Niemen Marcus.
I enjoyed completing the VALS activity. I learned a lot about myself as a consumer and simply a person. As much as I don't like to admit it, I am a striver. As I spend me college years striving for material wealth and to get to that place in life where people I aspire to be are today. I know wealth does not bring you happiness; it does bring you to enjoy social shopping just a little more.
