This countries neglect and abuse rates are extremely high. In 2001 alone, there were 903,000 neglect and child abuse cases in America. According to the Department of Human Services, out of every 1000 children 12.4 were part of this heinous crime. By 2002 the number only went down by .2 victims.

In 2004 the Bush Administration put forth a new system in which to protect our children. Under this plan a budget was made that when a child was neglected or abused they would be placed in foster care for a period of time and they would be taken care of. It also helps give the financial support that more programs could be funded. As Wade F. Horn, Pd.D. stated, "Every time a child is abuse or neglected, the whole human race suffers". "President Bush's plan to prevent this terrible problem will point the way to happier lives for many children."

Within the last few years this problem has decreased some but not enough. Now because the laws make it easier to come forward on this problem the numbers have came down. The public is now more aware of what is going on than they did before. Between 1985 and 1993 the numbers were outrageous; it was around 47 out of 1000 cases of child abuse and neglect that was reported. Those numbers don't include what was not reported.

Currently for the 2010 year the statistics are 266, 000. Almost half of those were newborns to the age of six. The statistic was the alleged offenders are 212,000 but about half of them were all minors. The children are committing the abuse as well. The studies show that 60% to 80 % that fatalities of children were due to malnutrition but only half of these are even reported.

According to many studies, that 31% of women that are in prison were abused as a child as well as 60% of the people that are in a drug rehabilitation center were abused. It has been said that about 30% of the kids that were abused will grow up and abuse children themselves.

These statics are unbelievable. Neglect and abuse is known worldwide, it needs to stop somehow somewhere. If it's not more and more of our children will eventually do abuse their children and their children abuse their children and so on. Not to mention even if the children make that far. Something has to be done before it gets worse.
