What is effective Human Resource Management? What strategies are compiled in order to align this theory with an organization’s long term goals and business initiatives? How do you ensure human resources support the company’s said strategies? In the following report I will attempt to enlighten the reader on human resources as an integral part of any organization; without a STRONG human resource department, the company will lack effectiveness and talent.
The human resource representative I interviewed has been in the field for five years and has worked in several diverse industries. She is of Hispanic decent and has a BA of Business from a prestigious university. I chose to interview this particular person because she is a minority female in an effort to dissect society’s perception of a female human resource professional. Does this make a difference?
EFFECTIVE HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
What is effective human resource management? By definition it is the process of hiring and developing employees so that they become more valuable to the organization. When I interviewed my person of interest she replied, “this is accomplished by meeting customer expectations with adequate resources which includes internal customers, filling positions, completing paperwork, all while meeting this task at the critical timeframe.” Needless to say that this response seemed ‘garbled’ and rehearsed. When I analyzed this response further I came to the conclusion that this particular representative was inexperienced and untrained in dealing with this skillset.
ENSURING HUMAN RESOURCE SUPPORTS BUSINESS STRATEGY
According to my subject, this is accomplished through a process called Personal Development and Review Process (PDPR). This is interim Reviews should be conducted with a light touch and on a flexible basis as required to support both organizational and individual development needs. To enable effective monitoring of individual progress in achieving agreed job objectives and engagement in Continuous Professional Development activity.
DEALING WITH SIGNIFICANT MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES
This, by far, is the toughest obstacle for a human resource manager. Several variables contribute to these challenges such as individual character, market availability, politics, and talent pools. According to my interview subject- the only sure fire way to maneuver your way through these obstacles and ensure strict compliance to labor laws it to follow the rules and regulations to the letter. The future success of any organizations relies on the ability to manage a diverse body of talent that can bring innovative ideas, perspectives and views to their work. The problems and challenges that can appear in the working environment may be turned into strategic assets of the organization and used for the company’s prosperity. Due to different talents and different cultural backgrounds, diverse genders, ages and completely different lifestyles, the company can have more business opportunities, work more quickly and creatively and achieve the desirable goals as quickly as possible. More importantly, if the organizational environment does not support diversity broadly, one risks losing talent to competitors.
