What is the purpose of life? This is a question that afflicts many people. Most individuals believe that there is no purpose, and therefore no instructions on how to live life. Yet, even with this mindset, there is an emptiness that haunts them. They try to fill that void with sex, money, drugs, alcohol, food, etc. That may lessen the feeling for a little while, but when the feeling wears off, the emptiness returns even stronger than before. There is only one solution to fill that void in one's heart. The answer is Jesus Christ. Human beings were created to have a relationship with Almighty God. In the beginning of time, when the first man and woman (Adam and Eve) disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit, sin entered the world. Sin (i.e. greed, lust, lying, pride, hatred, etc.) creates separation between man and God. God and sin cannot co-exist. God lives in heaven; sinners are sent to hell. One may ask, "Why would a loving God send someone to hell?" It is because He is a just God. Let's think about it this way: you have a loved one (i.e. spouse, child, sibling, etc). Someone murders your loved one. That murderer goes to court before the judge. How would you feel if that judge said, "Murderer, there are no punishments for your crimes. You are free to go." Would you feel that justice had been served? God is a just God. Even so, He is a merciful God as well. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Death equates to spiritual death, and ultimately hell, which is a tortuous place separated from God. Since God doesn't want to be separated from mankind, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to come to earth and pay the penalty of sin through the death and hell that we humans deserve (John 3:16-17). Jesus lived on the earth for 33 years and experienced the things that humans go through. Jesus taught us how to live life without any sin. He then gave His life to be beaten and mistreated. He died, went to hell, took the power of death from the devil and came back to life (resurrected). He walked on the earth for over a month longer before going back to heaven. Because Jesus Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice for humankind, He holds the key to eternal life. Through a personal relationship with Jesus (i.e. praying to Him, asking for forgiveness of sins, studying the Bible, and obeying its commands), the gap between the person and God is bridged. God accepts Christ's sacrifice as the compensation for the person's sin. God and the person are reunited, and that feeling of emptiness disappears. If the person does not have a relationship with Jesus Christ established by the time of his/her death, he/she will have to pay for his/her owns sins. The only way to pay is hell. Don't wait for tomorrow is not promised.
