What should be done to stop deforestation?

In the early 1960s, about 73% of Cambodia's total land area was covered with forests, but nowadays there is only 40% of the land covered with forest because of deforestation. This problem becomes the most concern of environmentalist and the Government. So, what should be done to control the deforestation in Cambodia? There are three possible ways to maintain our forest life: Education, Law enforcement, and Recycling program.

Firstly, education is the most important key to stem deforestation. Deforestation can be stopped or reduced if we all together join hand to protect the tree lives. Started from school life, student must be implanted the sense of forestry love, so that they will not destroyed the tree lives. All local villagers are encouraged to participate in seminar about forest preservation. All people should be educated about the importance of forest to our lives, so that they might take good care of the tree as their lives. People should know about the effect of deforestation such as landslide, flashflood or storms which are the result of imbalance nature caused by deforestation.

Secondly, government must pay a great attention on deforestation's law. This law must be strongly practiced; otherwise, the corruption will arise in the society. Government must give a strong punishment to those who commit wrong with the forestry law. This law must be enlightened to all castes of people because everyone has a role in forest protection. All foresters must work effectively in their controlled area; otherwise, they must be punished in any cases of deforestation found in their area. Citizens who cut down the trees without permission are also punished according to the law. In addition, this law must be reformed in order to adapt to this serious situation of deforestation which has been happening in Cambodia

Lastly, in addition to government, people should have duty to protect and prevent the forests. Local villager should be encouraged to participate in community forestry because participation of local people is the best ways for sustainable forest management. Anyway, people need to cooperate with NGOs which work related to the field of forestry. Those organizations work directly in their area and provide the residents the possible ways to avoid of cutting down the trees. Moreover, local people are effective local guard. Their daily life are depend on the forest, so they will know and protect on time about all the illegal activities that happen to the forest.

To sum up, as our forest in our country is being destroyed every day, the government must take action against deforestation by making our law more effectively. Education should be much focus on deforestation and people should act directly in forest protection their community. So in the name of good citizen, we must join together to protect
