When the going gets tough
Life is full of hardships; it matters on how we handle these situations. Do we end up strong or do we end up as the fate has chosen it for us? These hardships can either lead us to success or failure. The outcomes of the situations are depended on how the situations are handled through the hardship. In the short story "Traplines" by Eden Robinson, she introduces us to Will who goes through interior and exterior hardships throughout the course of the story. He has a choice to make and his choice will determine how he will live his life. In "Boys and Girls" by Alice Munro, protagonist has to suffer expectations that the society has for her and the expectations that she has for her. In the short story, "Touching Bottom" by Kari Strutt, she faces her inner fear of touching the bottom of the ocean because of the murky water. She needs something to guide such as a net or lines to guide her way in water.
In the short story, Traplines, Will has to face interior hardships as well as exterior hardships through the course of the story. Will has a choice to live in his house which is crappy and always smells like drugs or he can choose to live with Smyth's and hopes for a future. Will has no hopes for his life if he chooses to live with his parents. Will is trapped by his environment and by the people who he is surrounded by. He gets into lot of fights with his brother because his brother is always stoned and doesn't know what he is doing and hits on Will. At the end Will chooses to escape and moves to Vancouver for sometime with his friends. In my point of view that is just a temporary relief that he will get but he will have to come back and face the problems again.
