In story Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been it is talking about a typical teenager named Connie. Connie is a girly girl at heart that likes to hang out with her friends, laugh and flirt with boys. She has an older sister that she is compared to a lot. In the beginning of the story the narrator states that "her mother knew everything and noticed everything about Connie always scolded her". Connie was always in the mirror looking at herself giggling. Being a teenager before I could only imagine the way her mother acted would drive her crazy to the point she would want to leave the house and be around her friends. Connie would get to hand out with her girlfriends and go to the movies. Sometimes they would even go to across the road to drive in restaurant with the older kids. Connie would ride around with a boy leaving her friend at the restaurant only to meet up with her hours later. Connie did act as if she was older than fifteen years old. The narrator states that, "Connie couldn't do a thing, her mind was all filled with trashy daydreams". Connie would soon have a dream that a boy named Arnold Friend that confused her and made her scared. The influenced that media can have or children is dangerous. The media makes us believe that skinny and pretty is so important. Also the less clothing you have on you get noticed more. In Connie's case I think she was a pretty girl trying to find some acceptance. He mother always praised her sister and always found fault in her. The father was never around and when he was he ate and went to bed. So with this you start to look for attention in all the wrong places friend and boys. Connie appeared to be a very outgoing person but some of her actions like hanging with an older crowd and riding around with boys can get her into dangerous situations. If she would get more attention from her family she can redirect her attention into things that are less dangerous.
