Where the Red Fern Grows
In the book Where the Red Fern Grows there is this little boy, and his name is Billy. He was out walking one night and heard a few dog's in an alley, and could tell they were fighting. All of the sudden he sees these dog's attacking one dog. He is pondered on what to do. Then the dog backs up under a bush and another dog goes under there to fight him but loses. The next dog does the same thing, once again another dog lost. The dog was starting to get really tired so Billy starts yelling and waving his coat at them, and made them go away. He took the dog home, fed him, and let him go back to where he came from.
Billy had fallen in puppy love after seeing that dog. He did not want any kind of dog, he wants a hound dog. Billy cried for weeks because he wanted that dog and knew he couldn't have one. He asks his parents for one but then realized he did not want just one he wanted two. His parents had told him no every time. To make everything better his dad bought him a trap. Billy loved that trap, but he was always catching the cat. He finally got over the trap and wanted the dogs again.
He was walking by the river and saw that there were some people that were camping but left a magazine. This magazine had an advertisement for puppies. So he saved up the money and his parents said he could buy them. He was able to get them but had to wait a week to go to Kentucky to get them. He did not want to wait a week to get them. So he decided to leave the house at night and go get them himself. He had no shoes and walked from Idaho to Kentucky to get the dogs.
So he finally gets to Kentucky and everyone is staring at him. When he gets to the shop with the dogs he got them and left. He walked past the playground and all the kids were making fun of him. One of the kids pulled his dogs ears. So they all got into a fight, but the marshal broke it up. He finally got home and his parents were so happy that he was home, that he didn't get in trouble. He bought his parents' clothes and sisters' candy. At the end of this he named the male dog Old Dan, and named the female dog Little Ann.
