Problem Statement:

Whether Ms. Alice George should continue with Conman Systems Pvt Ltd or not?

Situation Analysis:

After reading the case, it is very clear that Mrs. Alice has done fabulous job in Home Computing segment since she has joined the Conman Systems Pvt Ltd. It is felt that she is the victim of the Discrimination in the organization because of the conscious or unconscious biasness of the management towards the gender discrimination.

This may affect women's self-worth and can keep them from achieving their potential.

Alternatives for the problem:

  1. She can continue with the organization with the new Position as VP –PR.
  2. She can contribute in the home computing segment with the condition that she needs to work under Mr. Naik who seems unethical in doing job.
  3. She can immediately resign and may start a new job with better opportunities.

Evaluation of Alternatives:

1. With the first alternative, she will continue to work in same organization as Vice President – Public relations. With the new responsibilities and roles assigned to her, she will not be able to justify her position as she thinks that the work will not involve her true skills which will be helpful to achieve the goal of the organization. It may possible that she may enjoy the work after spending some time. It is also possible that she may not be much competitive in the Business Computing as there is no data available in the growth of that particular segment. That is why managing director has taken such decision to appoint a new person who have knowledge about the same market and thus drive this segment to new heights.

Also, she need to wait for some time to get things settled down. First, she need to understand the new structure of the organization and business policy. Also, she should wait to know how Mr. Naik is performing. It may possible that there will be negative effect on the home computing segment and on the other hand Business computing segment is not improving.

2. With the second alternative, it is possible to handle the Home computing segment if the management agrees with her proposal given the condition that she will report to Mr. Naik. But in that case, it is very much clear that the intentions of Mr. Naik are not ethical. Then, She need to tackle the situation more carefully as it may hamper her impression in the organization.

3. With the third alternative, she can leave the organization and move to some other organization where she will get the roles and responsibility with which she would like to continue for the betterment of the new organization.

Decision or best alternative:

After looking into the each alternative in detail, I feel that the 1st alternative will be best suitable for her. It will also give her time to think for her future.

Action plan:

Considering all the information given in the case, she should not move over to next organization immediately but should continue with the organization as VP - PR. With new responsibilities, she should try to achieve the organization goal. This will also give her time to think about her future whether to continue with the new responsibilities assigned or shall move on and find the better job.
