Thesis: This is a comparison of how the main features of Windows XP Pro and Home the differences and similarities ("Microsoft Tech Net,"(2005).
A. Windows XP Home
1. A Basic Set of Key Features:
a) User management (limited to two security levels, no policies.)
b) Workgroup Networking/ Joining Domains ( limited to workgroup network unable to join a domain)
c) Security On sharing disks and folders (no security, everybody has access to shared data)
d) Limit of simultaneous file-sharing connections (max 5 simultaneous file-sharing connections
e) Security of disks and folders (NTFS drives) ( limited security , made difficult to use)
f) No group policy editor
g) Remote desktop access not included
h) Back-up program ( only included via VALUEADD)
i) ASR (automated system recovery) not included
B. Windows XP Professional
1. A Basic Set of Key Features:
a) User management (full user management and security policies)
b) Workgroup Networking /Joining Domains ( workgroup networking and able to join a domain)
c) Security on sharing disks and folders ( full security based on user management)
d) Limit of simultaneous file-sharing connections ( max 10 simultaneous file-sharing connections)
e) Security of disks (NTFS drives) (full disk/ folder security based on user management)
f) Group Policy included.
g) Remote desktop included
h) Back-up program included
i) ASR (automated system recovery) included.
Thesis: As it appears there are always pros and cons to using the two types of Windows operating systems. ("Microsoft Tech Net", 2005). One has more than the other and might appear more secure than most (Stallings, W. (2009).
