Women in Islam

The central role of Islam family is women as wife and mother. Family is the miniature of society and the center of basic social relationship to unite Muslim community. The role or status of women cannot be explained in a fixed way. There are numerous factors which influence it, for example, politics, economy, traditional Islamic worldview, different schools of Islam, and teaching of the three basic books, Hadith, Qur'an, and Sharia and so on. Women's part even in one society is various depending on the level of education, financial ability, and living areas. Studying women in Middle East and Turkey is very helpful to understand the wide range of Muslim women. Middle East and Turkey does not consist of a single-race nation or is not a unity, so there is no prototype of gender role among women among which very different social stratums exist. Muslim women in this area differ from those in East Asia. They have quite various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. For instance, the life of women in a poor country side is not the same with that of who is professional in the rich city. This paper will dig up the basic view on the women's role from the traditional teaching and change in modern era so that we might understand them better. Islamic view of womanhood Despite different views of womanhood working between early and late Islam period, the basic notion seems from the Islamic teaching from Qur'an, Hadith and Shariah.
