There are many different thoughts about World War I. World War I was a global war centered in Europe. It began June 28th, 1914, and lasted until November 11th, 1918. It was also called the Great War because it was such a big deal throughout the world. WWI involved all of the great powers of the world. And those consisted of two opposing alliances. The Triple Entente was United Kingdom, France, and Russia. And the Central Powers was originally Germany, Austria-Hungry and Italy. But as Austria-Hungry had taken the offensive against the agreement, Italy did not enter the war. First, America didn't want to take part in the war at all. President Woodrow Wilson insisted that "America is too proud to fight." America didn't enter World War I until April 6th, 1917 when Germany bombed and suck seven American merchant ships. The U.S. didn't really form sides with anyone but became more of a self-styled "Associated Power." More than nine million people in combat were killed because of the technology advances that led to enormous increases in the deadliest weapons around. It was the 6th deadliest conflict in history. People were affected short term and long term because of this war.
Long term effects can be a little confusing. First, the war had huge effects on the countries that were in it. There was the rivalry between Britain and Germany, the rivalry between France and Germany, the rivalry between Austria-Hungary and Russia, the alliance system and militarism.
