This article forces on a survey taken in 1998 by school children in Franca, Brazil about their work history. It also forces on the child labor debate in Brazil from people in the northern and southern regions. The survey was taken by children between the ages of 12 and 17. They were asked how many of them had jobs or were looking for a job and just about all of them answered yes. With the age group 12-13 only 23childern out of 46 was not working at all. They were asked if they were working because they were forced to by their parents 80% of them said no. They were working to earn their money for clothing, shoes, cosmetics purchases ,snack food, CDs, tickets to entertainment events, bicycles, and, later, motorcycles. The other 20% work to help their families have food, clothing, and other basic needs. Most of the working children in Franca have little to no schooling. Having children working in unsafe conditions for long hours and low wages should be outlawed. Many of the children are being abuse in the work place and it is ok because children have the right to work. Even thou child labor is ethical the ethical stands in Brazil should be raised.
