Graphic design is a way of interpreting ideas and expressing them through visual communications. The main goal of graphic design is to deliver specific messages to specific social groups. Although every country has its own social roots and unique art and style, it is good to keep in touch with people and innovations from different parts of the world. Therefore, as I advance in my career, I feel it is essential to have the opportunity to get to know and communicate with people from different backgrounds who are exploring design.

Apart from exploring design from a different perspective and specially getting to know Canadian design and culture from the inside, this is an opportunity to improve my English, learn the French language, and grow intellectually and culturally. This experience is also a chance to meet other people, their habits, their ways of thinking and exchange ideas. As a Uruguayan citizen it is also really interesting the idea to be part of a country that is more than fifty times bigger than Uruguay and has ten times our population.

I have had the opportunity to travel a few times, and I think it is amazing to get to know a place further than you do in books. Canada is a place that lots of people know by watching pictures in books or movies as it has really interesting sceneries. Having the opportunity to study abroad is totally different, you get to know the country from a closer perspective. Studying abroad is a really challenging experience; it is for those who are adventurous, open to changes and eager to learn and absorb information. I believe I am one of those.

Finally, I have no doubt this is once-in-a-lifetime experience which I will never forget, one that will enrich my personal life and help shape my future studies and career.
