Both private and public securities play an imperative role in the societies throughout the world, especially in the United States. Although public security is protecting government, state and federal officials; private security is simultaneously protecting persons, and property. Many will agree that even with different goals in their jobs, both private and public security have the same foundation, which is to protect the person or a property. Throughout the history many people contributed to the improvement of security, but Allan Pinkerton as a father of both private and public security had an enormous contribution in this field. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to define how Allan Pinkerton did establish the security, and outline the early years of private and security system in the United States. Allan Pinkerton was born in Glasgow, Scotland on August 15, 1819. During early ages of his life he was fighting with the tragic loss of his father, who was a police officer in Glasgow. Going through hard life and fighting obstacles as a teenager Allan was able to get on the right life path. He was able to find a job as a cooper, which was a step for him into becoming a part of a political and social reform called Chartism. For the reason that Allan was a strong activist of Chartism, the England police wanted to arrest and prosecute him, which was the reason for Allan's immigration to the United States in 1842 (, 2010)

Pinkerton moved to Chicago, but shortly after he decided to move to the small town in Illinois called Dundee. Living an everyday life Pinkerton has discovered some illegal activities in areas of Chicago and Dundee. Therefore, Pinkerton had discovered and captured a gang who was committing counterfeiting in Chicago and brought them to the justice, which made him realize that that the United States police does not have strong enough force to fight the crime. Hence, in 1846 Pinkerton was appointed as a deputy sheriff of Kane County, and four years later he was appointed as a first detective of Chicago, Illinois (, 2001).
