In my opinion, I think I am still in the process on being a competent communicator.
To be a competent communicator, I know that we must determine the general and specific purposes of our speech and organize your speech to meet those purposes. We must project our sincerity and get to the point on what we wants to say.
We must learn the value of gestures and body movements as part of the speech. I believe that people will rather to judge our non-verbal messages then what we tells them by mouth.
So it's very important to control our gestures, volume of our voices, our body movement and so on. Because if our non-verbal language is not matching with what we tells the other, it will be a misunderstand present and it might affect what the others think about you.
Next, we need to have full information of the topic that we trying to pursue the others. We must have facts and points to support the topic we hold. After learning business communication, I found that's really important to have aware of how important communicate in our daily life. And I'll always learning hard to be a success communicator with a positive mind.
Communcation is very important in a relationship too. A competent communicator must knows what to say at the right time at the right place for the right reason. Sensitivity means treating others, as you would have them treat you. Don't expect friendship from others if you are unprepared to be friendly. Don't think cooperation will come if you are not cooperative.
We have a lot to learn to become a competent communicator, the first step is be a person that have moral value in heart, such as learn to respect. Treating others as you would want to be treated is a central guiding ethical standard. Respect shows concern for others (team orientation) not just a concern for self (me orientation).
Honesty and ethically responsible communicators try to avoid intentionally deceptive messages. Honesty is a cultural expectation of the company. It is one of the things we most value in the friends we have and something we value in others.
