An Information Security Accident

A virus that was called common malware according to the Military officials has
attacked the system that controls U.S military drones.
The officials asserted that there is no evidence showing the virus has impacted the
missions of the drone because the virus was detected running on a stand-alone
mission network. Also the virus was just the kind of virus stealing gaming account so
it couldn't transmit data and compromise the files or programs on infected the
computer according to the Air Force.
The virus has infected a portable hard drive exchanging data with systems at Creech
Air Force Base in Nevada as well. What's more, the infection of Air Force's network
persisted for two weeks and technicians try to solve the problem on their own, and the
Air Force's top cyber security officials didn't know the situation until they the initial
story was published on the newspaper. So it is likely that the Air Force doesn't
updates to antivirus software regularly and lacks of quick response to virus and it
should require high-level information security on information security as a key
military department. This incident reminds the Air Force official that they may need
centralized computer network system all the resources could be managed at one place.
From this incident, we can conclude that the Air Force necessary has segmented
network efficiently even one point failure in the network it won't cause the entire
network fall down. But the drone was designed to attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan
involving the safeguarding of sensitive military data, the Air Force will investigate the
incident further and continue to strengthen their cyber security.
