Some chemicals are corrosive such as concentrated nitric acid this is a very dangerous chemical as it can produce poisonous gas. Which means it's should be treated with care. This chemicals also burns through things as it is corrosive also other chemicals such as sulphuric acid which needs to also be taken with great care with because it is an acid which will burn your skin even tiny micro droplets of this chemical on your skin will feel itchy until you rinse fully with water. When handing these chemicals you need to ensure that you are using the right equipment or all the above could happen if not taken care. You should use protective eyewear, rubber aprons, fume hood, gloves to prevent the chemicals from going on your skin. Also you should wear face shields as this will help in protecting your face When handling chemicals is involved you have to make sure that any toxic chemicals salts are dissolved, diluted and flushed away. When handling chemicals it is also crucial that hazard labels are used in the laboratory so the lab technicians can recognise the hazards of the chemicals they are handling.

To store a chemical such as nitric acid you would need to ensure that it is secured properly. This type of corrosive chemical needs to be secured in a glass container because if it is stored in there it will not be able to act corrosive easily. A chemical like sodium which is a metal is likely to react easily because it is one of the most reactive metals so is usually kept in a metal cupboard so it won't react if it is kept in there. Wood is likely to catch on fire so the chemicals should not be kept in there. All of the mineral acids Phosphoric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Nitric Acid, Sulfuric Acid, and Perchloric Acid are all supposed to be kept in a cabinet away from organic acids. Some microbes such as bacteria needs to be frozen when stored and the container needs to be sealed when storing this microbe. When storing this microbes such as HIV it is not to be kept in a lab because it would then spread. When storing chemicals you must ensure that the importance of stock rotation is clear to you this means that you must make sure that the older chemicals are used first because this way you aren't wasting any chemicals. If the chemicals are kept for a long period of time then the chemicals can become dangerous.

The procedure for ordering chemicals is as follows if a lab technician wants to order chemicals for the laboratory they are supposed to go online and are then are expected to fill out a form determining which chemical and why they need it and it is also crucial for them to mention what company they are from for example they could be ordering chemicals for a school lab like Jack hunt so they could mention Jack hunt. This is important to follow as they would not be able to get the chemicals if they do not fill out the forms. Usually to order a senior lab technician is in charge as stock becomes too low ordering chemicals is then very important. The procedures are followed so the people you are ordering from know what chemicals you need if the procedure wasn't followed then you may not get the right chemicals or the right amount of chemicals you need so it is important to follow these procedures as then you will be able to order chemicals if you need extra chemicals. This procedure is crucial to follow as it ensures that only people like lab technicians are the ones who are ordering the chemicals because these chemicals are supposed to be highly dangerous.

It is essential that equipment is properly maintained for example a ph meter if it is not calibrated properly then it may be useless to the lab technician as it will not give the right results. In order to ensure that the ph meter is fully maintained you need to check the machine to ensure that it is calibrated using the standard solutions of known ph. To stop the ph meter from drying out you have to rinse them
