Animal testing has provided us with a wealth of knowledge about medicine, however, some might argue that animal testing causes pain and suffering towards the animal and that animal research is misleading because animals and humans are not the same. To address the argument that animals and humans are not the same, when animal testing is done, doctors research what kind of animal is appropriate for the test and they choose accordingly based on what they are testing for. "The cardiovascular system of a pig, is almost identical to that of the human being; so pigs are a favorite model of cardiovascular disease", the human benefits of this kind of testing are "improved care of cardiac patients" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0QXUHeGeOc). Dr. Simon Festing Adds to this with, "There are of-course differences between humans and animals but there are also remarkable similarities as well; we share for example over 90% of genes just with a mouse and many of the major biological systems from digestion to the cardiovascular system work in the same way with humans" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RL_KZ2bAQE).
