Assessing the validity of human resources research in China

PHB8004

Theory and Practice in Business

Abstract

The research question was grounded in the existing literature because of how the framework was laid out by the authors for the proposed new "indigenous" theory of human resources management research in China. The emphasis on volume of journals/articles reviewed also helped fortify their data findings. In addition, the authors' detailed description of the steps taken to validate their research question and the activities which helped lead to the conclusions of this article also reinforced this article. For example, they walked the reader through their process of validating the research question by offering suggestions. "We offer a couple of suggestions on how to build original theory from indigenous research. First, start with inductive ground work to get a good understanding of the setting, then target respondents and the environment. This process helps the researcher to frame the research question.."(X. Liang et al., 2010)
