Billing process
Health care institutions follow a well structures process for billing. This is because this process is critical in ensuring financial viability is maintained in hospitals. This paper will discuss the billing process for inpatients hospitals.
The first step is by generating and submitting reimbursement forms with the medical bills to the patient or third parties. These forms are also known as billing forms and are essential in ensuring the relevant parties have all the information on how much they are supposed to pay. In cases, whereby it is an insurance company that is supposed Insurance claims form is filled and submitted to the particular insurance company for payment (Ferenc, 2011).
The patient or the payer then reviews the billing form submitted and makes a claim on it. The payer utilizes a document known as remittance advice that communicates whether he or she agrees with the claim in the billing form. Remittance advice can also include the payment of the charges as stated in the billing form and in some cases, the payer can request for more information using this document.
Patients receive their bill statement monthly in case of a balance. Health facilities have a department that manages accounts that are received to ensure that balances that are outstanding are paid on time. This department also ensures that cases that have outstanding balances are followed up.
Health facilities categorize patients accounts based on how long the balance has been outstanding. This is known as Aging Report. This report enables health facilities to know cases that require following up and coming up with the relevant policies on how to ensure the outstanding balances are paid.
In conclusion, it is clear that billing process is vital in health facilities and following these steps ensures that hospitals do not end up losing their financial viability.
