Reggae music was created by combining the characteristics of Northern Rock and Jamaican music of Africa during the 1960s. This new style of music known as reggae had much in common with the rhythm and blues, but the Latin music scene of the textbook, the author Jean Ferris, "polyrythms are more complex bass lines are stronger and more relaxed pace "(Ferris p. 207). Reggae music gives a sense of very emotional and religious listeners. Reggae is closely related to the Rastafarian religious movement, and much of this music has religious connotations to explain the singers beliefs and views on the situations of a Rastafari (Bradbury p.2).

While reggae music has been popular in other parts of the world in 1960, especially England, became the popular music in the United States until a legendary artist named Bob Marley came to the reggae music scene. Bob Marley is undoubtedly the king of reggae music and when one thinks of reggae, Marley is probably associated. His words of wisdom reached many people who were in a difficult situation, no matter what the problem maybe there is a Bob Marley song that somehow or other are related. Marley grew up in the ghetto of Kingston, Jamaica, also known as Trenchtown. It was here that he went through his struggles with poverty, hunger and the daily struggle of being poor black child in a poor third world country. Marley left school at 15 years to earn money as a welder, and spent all his free time with his best friend Bunny improve their vocal technique (Miller, p. 1). In 1962, Bob Marley musical friends, Bunny, Peter McIntosh, Junior Braithwaite and started a reggae band The Wailing Wailers. In its first year of their first single, "Simmer Down" was a number one hit in Jamaica and went to youth on the road to stardom. Although the band did not stay together after Bob Marley married in 1966. The band members all went on to have a successful solo career of reggae music, but none were as big as BP Marley. Bob Marley reggae style changed after his marriage and his involvement in the Rastafarian movement, to send a more spiritual and social message to his listeners. Bob Marley formed his new band Bob Marley and the Wailers trio with female vocal harmony, including his wife Rita, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. The new group was established in spreading the message of "One love, one world" (Miller, p. 1).

Rastifarian The religious movement is based on the combination of the purest forms of Judaism and Christianity. Although very different from Christians, worshiped and prayed to the Lord their God. This form of religion rejects the Babylonian hypocrisy of the modern church (Bradbury, p. 1). Their religion reflects the social and geographical environment in which they live. The use of marijuana is used as a sacrament, and meditation help to make the logic of their religion. Rasta leaders consider the marijuana "wisdomweed" and called smoked as the religious right. They argue that marijuana was found growing on the grave of King Solomon and citing biblical passages, Psalms 104:14, to attest to its sacramental properties set: "He makes the grass for the cattle, and herb for the service of man can put food on earth "(Bradbury p.3). This is very important, since Bob Marley was obviously under the influence of marijuana during most of his writings and actions. Therefore, this drug had an impact on the output of Bob Marley wrote and lived all his life. While marijuana drug was very important to the Rastafarian religion, which dominated in other things like alcohol, snuff, all meat, and seafood (Bradbury p.3). In fact, I see nothing wrong with using an illegal drug that is not only his country but ours. Much of the work of Bob Marley has to do with his vision of the drug.

I will compare and contrast three of the most famous and listened to Bob Marley. The songs "No Woman No Cry", "Get up, Stand up" and "Jammin" everyone is a collection of more than Bob Marley's greatest hits album Legend. The album, released after his death has sold over ten million copies and the United States and around twenty million people around the world (BobMarley.com / lyrics p. 1). The greatest hits album combines the best songs of the twelve discs made as a musician in your life, short but successful. The three songs I'm
