List some basic human needs end how those needs are met (through employment, family, friend's faith community, etc.) What are some of the reasons for why some individuals are not able to meet their basic needs?

Some individuals are not able to meet their needs due to being laid off from work, or not being able to find any work. Some may have disabilities that stop them from working and they have to rely on such welfare programs in order to survive. Others may have a mental disability where they will have to go into some sort of group home in order to maintain some what normal daily living routine in order to try and function.

What is the value of understanding the history of social welfare provision and the roots of the human services discipline? Social welfare was established to help those out during rough times in their lives. By knowing the history of the social welfare I will be able to serve the clients with better understanding of what their needs are today.

How can gaining a historical perspective of social welfare provision help human service workers meet the needs of their clients more effectively and compassionately? I would be able to tell them how far that the Human Service agency has come, and be able to help the clients with the specific needs. I would be able to do this as a kind caring person, by letting them know that we are here for them, and that we do not judge people in hard times.

Discuss your own experience in human services (or intended career) and how you intend to use your degree. When I was a single mom of 3 children I received help from the state that I lived in. I did go to work, but when I received my pay check it all went to the baby sitter, I had about $20.00 left when I was done paying the sitter. I had no choice but to ask for help since the judge at the time had only ordered their father to pay $20.00 a week child support. I then went into a program they have to help you build your skills to get a job; I took advantage of it and started working for a non profit agency. This was the best job I can say that I had in the past by being able to help others out in need.
