Abstract—This document describes the entire K-to-12 Student Track Prediction System. The document has its conciseness, clarity and brevity. This is designed to guide our users. It provides examples with appropriate manner. The K-to-12 Student Track Prediction is a system that would able to give tip for the student to choose track for entering the senior high school (SHS) from junior high school in the K-to-12 program by using data mining to predict SHS track. The use of data mining is one of the most popular techniques to analyze students’ performance. It allows assessing student track to predict student progress throughout its future progress before entering senior high school. Tracking student track in junior high school can be especially helpful in evaluating how well a track will fit them in meeting its central goals and skills for the senior high school. The system has been centered on only for institutions with the program of K-to-12. It contains of predicting and data mining to help the student to assess, lead and to accomplish it, just to make sure to tie these to their future. It only lies on predicting the possible tracks of the student in K-to-12 program according to its general averages that he/she earned on his/her junior high school days. It will be limited to junior high school students who will now proceed to senior high school.

Keyword - K-to-12 Education Program, SHS Tracks, Prediction

        I.        INTRODUCTION

K to 12 is designed for best interest in mind for the students. Such curriculum is the product of years of research, planning, and consultation that allows students to meet their competencies, career, and values personal choice for their success in the future. The level of success that the students will achieve in their junior high school has far-reaching implications for students’ personal and professional lives. Student success for its future has an influence on a student’s academic self-esteem, persistence, and perseverance in higher education. To achieve it, the use of the advancement of the technology is needed. To help the students to know what tracks in Senior High School in K-to-12 program will he/she choose for their better future. This matter can be provided into positive action. The advancements in data mining can also form ways to predict student its possible tracks in K-to-12 program.

According to Ololube and Kpolovie (2013), the prediction of academic achievement is an important area of research in education. The prevalence of research efforts in this area reflects the fact that many decisions reached in the modern educational system are based upon predictions of student success. The estimation of the student's probability of future academic success is a central aspect of the decision-making process in every educational setting, regardless whether the process involves personal decisions or institutional decision.

While it is hard to identify the model for it, especially prior to actual data mining, there are some standard variables that should serve as the foundation for the predictive model: junior high school general grade averages. Researchers have consistently found these factors to be significant ways to keep.

The K-to-12 Student Track Prediction is a system that would able to give tip for the student to choose track for entering the senior high school from junior high school in the K-to-12 program by using data mining to predict its track.

A. Project Context

Students under the junior high school of the K-to-12 program are involved in this study as their grades were the basis of the output of the system. The output of the system serves as a guide for the student to choose its track on the senior high school.

The “K-to-12 Student Track Prediction” system focuses on how the process can be used to identify the most important attributes in a student’s grade so as to predict the possible tracks in K-to-12 program. It could bring the benefits and impacts to students, educators and academic institutions.

In this system proposal, we made a human-computer intervention to the system so that it would give suggestions of Senior high school tracks for incoming SHS student. The basis of the system were student grades. The existing prediction methods are much needed for developing this system but they are still insufficient to identify the most suitable methods for predicting the track of students for admitting in senior high school of the K-to-12 program. We, the researchers, searched some set methods and algorithms from the internet and that matched the implementation of the system. Part of the project’s recommendation was to improve further the system after implementation.

B. Purpose and Description

The purpose of developing this system is to provide a basis or tip to junior high school students in order to help them decide their suitable SHS track in the senior high school using their general averages garnered in junior high school report cards as basis.

C. Significance of the Study

Students. The system will help them choose their SHS track by using their grade point averages in junior high school. It is hoped that through this study, the students will be guided and motivated in choosing the suitable SHS track for them.

Future Researchers - This study will serve as a basis for future researchers to undergo similar studies so that this system might be improve in any way possible.

Parents - The parents will profit from this study, since parents will be also aware of SHS tracks suitable for their children. The results generated from this system can serve as an advice for their child’s career path. They can start to exert an extra effort to speak to their children and help them in their studies in order to achieve. It would also help parents to become aware of their responsibility not only on the financial aspect but as well as on the moral aspect as far as guiding their children’s future is concerned.
