Care is the Core
“Do you want your children to have a teacher like the teacher you are?”
I unconsciously questioned myself upon hearing it. It was unanswered. It is either I am aware of the answer or I do not want to discern.
Teaching is a passion not simply a profession. Passion that is at work and not at the slumber of passivity; get involve. In order to achieve the main aim, this is holistic development.
Concern in knowing the psychology of the child which is vital to understand the child deeper is one of how to show care. Rare are the teachers who care to understand their students this deep rather they just stare at the shallow aspects of the child for instance the grade or their performance. Students who show potentials in the academic or non-academic fields are the ones noticed and liked by many. On the other hand, unfortunately, the ones who needed attention the most are the ones neglected and are easily judged. They are the non-achievers. Judging children by their grades is despicable. A low grade does not already denote that the child has a low IQ there may be something more behind that mark. The child maybe is in a difficult situation suffering psychologically or is sick having physical trouble. In order to be sensitive to these students’ needs there must be equal care to all of them sparing no one.
It is impossible to like all your students, however, to think, what if my child is among the students his/her teacher does not like. Each in every one of these children is treasured. A teacher must bring her heart with her when she teaches because care is the core of teaching.
Next time I am asked with that question I pray that I can wholeheartedly affirm and say “Yes, I want my children to have a caring teacher like the teacher I am to all my students.”
