Police officers have one of the most dangerous jobs. Police officers face danger on a daily and most of the time are the first people on the scene of many of the most gruesome accidents and crimes that one can imagine. Their jobs can be hard at times but they can also be rewarding as well. To become a police officer one has to endure the most mentally and physically challenging training. Police officers should be the most respected people in a community.

First to become a police officer one should be head strong and be able to think and act quickly. They must meet the requirements that the department has. One must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, needs to have law enforcement background of some sort, and be able to pass both a physical and criminal classes. The City of Deridder requires that one must be a U.S. citizen, 21 years of age, vision of at least 20/100 in each eye, and normal hearing. Most police cadets are sent to a training facility where they are trained in sociology, psychology, and diverse culture. They will also have to endure strenuous physical training, self- defense tactics, and handgun classes. In order to graduate from the class they must pass all parts required. Training to be a police officer does not stop at the academy. Officers must also have on the job training (OJT). They must ride along with other officers and learn the streets in which they will patrol and keep safe. Learn how to deal with the diverse population with in the City of Deridder. Training to be an officer can be difficult. This is not something that just anyone can be. You must be able to accept tremendous responsibility in the community and devote your best time and effort to become a good police officer.
