I. Definition of Classroom Boards

Classroom boards are visual aids used widely for different purposes and are essential for learning. It is a necessary tool always found inside the classroom and serve as a helping hand for teachers to bequeath information and knowledge to students.

A. Tool Widely Used for Effective Teaching

Classroom boards help students to become active and creative in class making discussions and lessons lively and fun. It helps the teachers discuss vividly and improves teacher-student relationship. B. Audiovisual Aid Material in the Classroom

Boards are often referred to as "the most important audiovisual aid material in the classroom" (Calderon 1998,225). It consists of many kinds such as whiteboards, blackboards, bulletin boards, magnetic boards and the like. These materials help students to participate actively, and be able to understand lessons, and manage classroom activities properly.

1. Whiteboard

The whiteboard is one of the visual aids found in the classroom just like chalkboards and is gaining popularity at present. Wikipedia defined whiteboard in these words:

"A whiteboard... is a name for any glossy surface, most commonly colored white, where non-permanent markings can be made... The term whiteboard is also used metaphorically to refer to features of computer software applications that simulates whiteboards." (http;//en.wikipedia.org)

2. Chalkboard

Chalkboards are one of the tools used in teaching and is preferred by teachers due to the fact that it is cheaper compared to other audiovisual aids. With the use of chalkboards, teachers can expound lessons and improve camaraderie during group discussions and meetings. Sometimes referred to as "a magic screen", chalkboards help develop participation and creativity among mentors and students.

II. Comparison Between Classroom Boards and LCD Projectors

Classroom Boards

* A tool that is commonly used and seen inside the classroom.

* Helps the teachers to explain vividly lectures and improves students' listening skills.

* Equipment used in classrooms.

* Help teachers to present work in graphic form and presentable way.

* Teacher depends on the presentation and handouts.

A. Nature of Classroom Boards

Classroom boards can be in the form of whiteboards, blackboards or bulletin boards. It is a widely used tool in the teaching profession. It is commonly seen in all classrooms, whether in preparatory, intermediate or in the tertiary level. A classroom wouldn't be one without it. It creates an effective learning environment for the students because it stimulates their interest and creativity. Maximum efficiency is achieved.

Advantages

1. All items essential for learning can be written on it.

2. Allows information content to be persistently visible after use, facilitating activity coordination and awareness of task progress.

3. Provide a writing surface that allows information to be freely modified through writing by both teacher and students.

Disadvantages

1. Teachers can write anything on the board which could lead to laziness among students.

2. Chalkboards release chalk dust when erased which can be hazardous to students and teachers with skin-related infections and diseases.

3. Writing in the board can be time consuming.

4. Some teachers and professors just randomly write everything in the board which confuses the readers.

4. Helps teachers deliver more effective lessons and help students get more involved in class.

5. It enables users to quickly externalize ideas or concepts since lessons are presented on the boards.

B. LCD Projectors

Showing "multi medias and live demonstrations" in the classroom to get the class' attention is now just a click away with the use of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) projectors. One of the well known presentation equipment available, they are easy to use and convenient for classroom discussions.

Advantages

1. Improved the way students learn.

2 . Easier to use compared to boards.

3. Capture your audience's attention and make lessons more interesting.

Disadvantages

1. LCD projectors are expensive.
