Conceptual Analysis

A conceptual analysis is being conducted with three articles concerning workplace diversity.

Article 1: "Embracing Diversity"

Article 2: "Managing Workforce Diversity at IBM: A Global HR Topic That Has Arrived"

Article 3: "Implementing Workplace Diversity and Values: What it Means, What It Brings"

1. Level of analysis - coding for sets of words: diversity, workplace, and organization.

2. Concepts to code - The implementation of diversity as fundamental to workplace diversity and the impact on organizations and employee satisfaction. Other concepts will be added if they are found to be relevant.

3. Code for frequency of concept - Frequency of diversity, workplace, and organizations will be evaluated for occurrence in the three articles.

4. An examination will be conducted to distinguish among different concepts - concepts may be the same but presented differently, such as workplace for workforce.

5. Translation rules - Consistency and coherency will be followed in coding the text.

6. Irrelevant information - All non-applicable information will be disregarded.

7. Code the text - This will be done manually to allow for concepts that are similar to those being coded.

a. Article 1 contains the word "diversity" 49 times, Article 2, 52 times, and Article 3, 37 times.

b. Article 1 contains the word "workplace" 5 times, Article 2, 10 times, and Article 3, 8 times.

c. Article 1 contains the word "organization" 17 times, Article 2, 5 times, and Article 3, 14 times.

Analyze Results

Conclusive results cannot be determined from these three articles and the conceptual analysis. There is a solid connection between the articles and the concept of workplace diversity. Article 1 states diversity 49 times, Article 2, 52 times, and Article 3, 37 times. One could conclude that diversity is directly related to the workplace diversity and because of the close relationship in the amount of times it is resent in all of the articles. Although the concepts of workplace and organization numbers are not as high as diversity, they still have significance. In Article 1, it states workplace 5 times, Article 2 states workplace 10 times, Article 3, 8 times. Article 1 states organizations 17 times, Article 2, 5 times, and Article 3, 14 times.
