A person's ability to recognize problems, adapt to the situation and ultimately overcome the issue could is called ability to solve problems. That person has certain traits to allow them to overcome problems. The creative process is more than just having these traits, it means to behave creatively by addressing challenges with new ideas. The textbook breaks the creative process down into four steps. These four steps are: Search for Challenges, Expressing the problem or issue, Investigate the problem or issue, and Producing ideas.

Searching for challenges; this represents a person's ability to identify a problem as opposed to an issue. If it were to snow six inches tonight and a man's car did not have snow tires, they would have a difficult time getting to work in the morning. This could be classified as a problem. If that same man failed to get his work done on time because he was spending too much time on the phone or computer; they would have an issue. As a person encounters problems and issues in their everyday lives, he or she has the opportunity to respond to the challenges.

Expressing the problem or issue; correctly identifying the problem as opposed to the symptoms will ultimately help produce the most ideas to help solve the problem or issue.

Investigating the problem or issue; this stage's objective is to obtain the facts and necessary information to handle the issue or problem at hand. This objective can be completed with a simple observation or calling on personal experience. A more complex problem or issue could result in new research and new observations.

Producing ideas: this final stages objective is to produce enough ideas or beliefs that will allow a person to overcome the problem or issue. It is common that ideas are limited to average, socially acceptable, familiar, and even habitual solutions or beliefs. Another problem that often arises is when a person stops making ideas and beliefs too early in this stage.

The observation of our surroundings is important in the creative process. Many people go through life just day-to-day but fail to see what is actually going on right in front of them. The world is full of inconsistencies and imperfections. Most Americans will simply accept a problem and complain about it as opposed to finding a creative solution to the problem. Airline travel is one of the necessary challenges that society faces on a regular basis.

The airlines seem to struggle with the handling of baggage. I do not know how many times I have had bags lost for days on end or bags that went to the wrong destination. My problem or issue is exactly that. Why do airlines lose my bags? After reviewing multiple perspectives I refined my problem to "How the airlines handle customer's baggage on direct flights."

Investigation of airlines through personal experience has led me believe that 50% of my flights have had baggage issues. I recently flew on a plane and the person to my right told me that she had flown 10 trips in the last 30 days and the airline had either lost or delayed her luggage 7 of those 10 times. Questions that arise when dealing with the problem of "How the airline handles customer's baggage on direct flights?" are:

Question 1. Are baggage systems automated or managed by hand?
