1) Describe a situation in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important to think critically and creatively in similar situations.
The situation that critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome would the Costa Concordia. All form of security was not used as far as the captain was concerned. Before a cruise ship leaves the dock a mandatory emergency drill is supposed to be performed. It was not performed neglecting the lives and safety of the any passengers were not thought about. The captain was too busy to make sure that they ship did not cruise too close to shore and because of this the Costa Concordia hit a huge underwater boulder causing water to overflow into the hull endangering the passengers and its crew. The captain decided that he did not to go down with his ship abandoned it with his only concern was for himself. Eleven people were killed and 28 were missing. Due to his neglect he was found guilty and sentenced to prison. If he would have used the process of critical and creative thought this incident would have been prevented.
Critical and creative thinking processes could have been used by developing ideas that were unique and useful while producing and trying the traditions essential of his own duties and efforts.
2) Define free will, truth, knowledge, and opinion. Explain how we use them to form thoughts.
Free will is defined as the apparent human ability to make choices that are not externally determined. Truth is simply the mind corresponding with reality, knowledge is having the truth and knowing that you have it and understanding why it is true, Opinion is having and hypothesis but not being entirely sure that your idea is true and extreme skepticism is self-contradictory because skeptics say that there is truth that there is no truth.
Free will gives a person the opportunity to have their own beliefs, thoughts and choices while truth and knowledge is knowing the truth and understanding it and having their opinion to use it. This gives an individual the opportunity to be more open minded and be able to use it in their creative thoughts and ideas.

3) Identify three hindrances to the critical thinking process. Determine methods for overcoming these hindrances. Identify a time in which you experienced a hindrance in critical thinking. Describe a method you could use to overcome the hindrances.
Critical thinking is reflective reasoning about beliefs and actions. It is a way of deciding whether a claim is always true, sometimes true, partly true, or false. The three hindrances of the critical thinking process are becoming aware that assumptions exist, making assumptions explicit, and assessing their accuracy.
