DATING AND MATING

PSYC 101

November 5, 2012

The worlds view of dating and God's view is totally different. In this paper I will

compare the world's view verses God's view of how we should date. From the

beginning of the Bible God made man in his image and made him male and female (Genesis

1:27).

Dating and mating the way God intended it to be.

As a culture we have become a microwave way of thinking. We want it quick, right now. We

don't want to wait for anything or work hard for it. We seem to think everything should be

instant; people are looking for instant gratification. Dating is a very vital part of finding your

mate. In dating is where you get to learn about the other person, find out if you are attracted to

each other and also learn about yourself. I believe everyone wants a companionship and wants to

be love.

I believe sometimes we make the wrong decision in mates because we become desperate. We

settle and believe the world's view of dating is different than God's view. Natural Selection

explains women's approach to sex is usually more relational, and men are more recreational

(Schmitt, 2005, 2009). The worldview of recreational dating is where both individuals have no

interest in a long term commitment; this is satisfying fleshly pleasures and no interest in

marriage. The world believes in casual dating/sex, open relationships, dating with benefits, no

commitment. Men are more apt to be comfortable and enjoying casual sex with more than

woman while women prefer planned dating (Bradshaw et al., 2010). God's view for dating did

not include casual dating/sex. The word says, "But fornication and all uncleanness or

covetousness let it not be name among you, as becoming saints (Ephesians 5:3).

The world tells you that how a person looks and how much money a person makes is most

important factors in seeking a relationship. The world tells you the outside of the person is more
