After watching Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu speaks on race relations in class, we agreed that when dealing with relationships there are a few values that we would like to see in our significant other. These values consist of physical appearance, personality, intellect, personal values, hygiene, treatment of family, trust, comfort, goal oriented, honesty, love, self-esteem, finances, education, independence, care, commitment, and communication. These relation values are important factors to us as teenagers, and I feel that if all Black relationships followed a few of these values then those relationships would run more smoothly and there would be more Black couples in the economy.
In Black Male and Female relationships, Dr. Kunjufu spoke about different ways the economy directly affects the Black relationship. Doing what society wants us to do and not what we want to do is one way the economy affects the Black Male and Female relationship. This affects the relationship because society would rather see a Black couples relationship crumble and fail, then to see them rise and succeed. Death of Finance is a major affect that the economy has on the Black relationship. Dr. Kunjufu stated that we use to go looking for our partners, and did not care about materialistic things. These days all we worry about when we are looking for a mate are material things such as looks, flash, and income.
Dr. Kunjufu mentioned something called "Death of Finance". Blue and White collar jobs have a lot to do with death of finance. Blue collar jobs are jobs that a person can have that don't require them to have a degree or any form of certification. People with Blue collar jobs do not make as much money as people with White color jobs. In today's society the majority of Blue collar workers are Black people. On the other hand White collar jobs are jobs that require you to have a form of high certification and or degree. White collar workers are mainly White people who make large amounts of money because of their qualifications. Blue and White collar jobs have an effect on the Black Relationship because Black Females look for the men with "big bucks". This causes the Black man to over work himself in order to please the Black female, hence the phrase "Death of Finance". The economy effects the Black Male vs. the Black Female by pressuring the Black Male because the economy makes him feels that he has to provide. If the economy has fallen then the Black Male has to work harder in order to provide for his family. This can cause multiple problems within the Black household because the Black Male will feel stressed.
One thing that caught my attention when watching Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu speak was the "Theory of Wellston" or the 28, 30, 2, 4 theory. This theory suggested that every person should take 28 years to know who they are, 30 years to know who you spouse is, 2 represents the number
