Introduction:

In the early 30s, under the inspiration of Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Insurance companies along with shipping and airline industries made their debut.

In 1932 in Calcutta, Mr. Ghulam Mohammad who later became Governor General of Pakistan, established an insurance company with H.H. Agha Khan and H.H. Nawab of Bhopal. The company was named Eastern Federal Union Insurance Company Ltd (EFU). It was registered in Calcutta and operated in undivided India and Burma. Its business was both General and Life Insurance.

At the time of independence of Pakistan in 1947, EFU (as the company was called) found a new country and rapidly established itself as a progressive and innovative insurance company. It provided the emerging insurance industry, the leadership, the manpower and the drive needed to grow in a situation where at that time three-fourths of insurance business was held by foreign companies.

The life industry was opened to the private sector and EFU Life was born in 1992. Mr. Roshan Ali became the Chief Executive Officer and under his leadership EFU Life became the largest private sector life insurance company in Pakistan.

Vision and Mission:

The vision of EFU Life Insurance is to make most respected and successful financial services organization in the world. Their strategy to achieve the vision is, to build core capabilities, serve clients beyond their expectations and corporate with the customers.

Success Story:

In 1994, launch of individual life business unit linked products for first time in Pakistan. In 1998, EFU Life became ISO certified, 1st in the Insurance sector. In 2002, first private life insurance company to distribute profits to shareholders, completed 10 years of successful operations.

In 2006, client servicing call center launched which managed growth fund’s NAV crossed Rs. 5 Billion. In 2007, EFU Life Insurance was the 1st life insurance company to have an IFS rating A+. In 2008, IFS grading upgraded to AA-.

In 2010, EFU Life Insurance Company, paid up capital increased to Rs. 850 million (highest in the private life insurance sector). In 2011, EFU Life Insurance Company introduced PRIMUS (specialized service focused on high net worth clients).

In 2011, EFU Life Insurance Company achieved milestone of Rs. 10 billion gross premium. In 2012, Point of sales system launched which Managed Growth Fund’s NAV crossed Rs. 30 billion.

Importance of Professional Writing on the Job:

Good writing skills are important when your job involves writing. If you are employed for your writing skills, having “good” writing skills is a job requirement. Any time a profession requires written communication, writing skills become important.

With emails, notes, letters, texts and Tweets, most people spend a fair amount of time at work communicating via the written word in EFU. Whether you are messaging a colleague, writing to your manager, or crafting the company news letter, your writing skills can boost or hinder your career easily, even if you do not have a “writing” profession. Basically, writing skills make a difference in how you come across.
