Employee assistance programs are very common in the workplace. These programs help employees with personal problems that they might be dealing with in their household. These problems can be big or small; some of the problems can even be job threating. Most problems that the employee assistance programs help the employees with are problems that can affect work performance, health, or the employee's well-being.

When working for any organization dealing with long hours this can cause many family problems. When family problems evolve, it is more than likely work problems will also evolve. Jobs can cause major stress because you have to give up many things and put the job in its place. Sometimes a job can even take place of the time that you have with your family. In many cases, many employees out in the workforce do not get to see their family because they are always at work. This can cause many problems with an employee's family because they will probably feel that you put your job before them but in most cases, many individuals get jobs to provide for their families. Family can play a big part while working for an organization and the reason why an individual stays at a job for so long. When an individual finds out that his or her family is unhappy with the decisions they are making this can cause stress and problems like these are the reason that there are programs like the employee assistance program. The employee assistance program can provide resources such as counselors that are already paid for by the organization. All organizations should have programs such as the employee assistance program because anytime you are away from your family it cause problems. Most Employee Assistance programs are only offered at big businesses because the employees work long hours.

Personally, I think that these programs should also be offered at the smaller businesses because these employees go through the most stress from my understanding because usually the risk of finding a similar employee that can do the same job is common. Therefore, the employees that work for the smaller companies go through more with their bosses than a larger company would. The Employee Assistance Program is a helpful resource and some be used more around the workforce. The can lower the rate of employees losing their jobs throughout the year because of family related problems.
