Abstract
Global warming issue is really popular topic among the people living in the Earth. For this topic, we can see the problems of global warming, causes of global warming, and solutions global warming solutions. Because this essay will just show readers few problems, causes, and solutions of global warming, I recommend readers not to believe those are absolute ways to conserve the Earth out of global warming. Also, because this topic can be really debatable, we are going to see what the opposition’s arguments are about. To refute those arguments, refutation of the opposition’s arguments will be needed for making this essay well-organized. Finally, in conclusion, this essay especially will restate the solutions of global warming because the style of the essay is proposal type which makes readers to do and persuade what we think they should do.
Keyword: global warming, emissions of gases, natural climate change, solutions of global warming.
Global warming
Global warming is one the hottest topics in the world. The global warming debate has gone on since the early 19th century. Even in South Korea, global warming has been one of the big issues, because environmental groups or politicians had tried their best to protect excessive development. South Korea is called Asian Dragon with Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. This is because these four countries achieved rapid industrialization and advanced in technology between early 1960s and 1990s. However, owing to rapid increase in growth rate natural environments have been destroyed all over the nation. As Korean’s quality of life has been improving, Koreans are gradually becoming sensitive to the environmental issue. For these reasons when I was an elementary school student, it was necessary to learn about global warming. At that time, I was not interested in global warming because I thought global warming was just because of politicians not because of me. A crucial moment came when I got interested in this topic where developed countries established a policy called Redd+(Reducing emission from deforestation and degradation) to preserve nature while providing financial assistance to developing countries such as a Brazil. The moment I saw and knew about the policy Redd+, I wanted to know the seriousness of the destruction of nature by Brazil on the Amazon. According to National geographic (January, 2007) ,which is well known for geography or history, “During the past 40 years, close to 20 percent of the Amazon rain forest has been cut down—more than in all the previous 450 years since European colonization began”. Despite these human activities, some people still believe that global warming isn’t from human activities, and that global warming is just a natural climate change.
However, in my opinion, because human beings have contributed to global warming, they have to feel responsible for rapid climate change. One of ways to feel responsible for global-warming is to know the problems, causes, and solutions. After that, the ability to counter a counter-argument will make us be able to save our Earth from excessive development.
First of all, global warming has caused lots of serious problems around the globe.
Well known event has happened in Arctic. Mountain snows and glaciers are melting and from this polar animals suffer from ice loss and people living in coastal areas or islands are suffering from rising sea-levels. For example, Tuvalu is one of sinking islands. Scientists predict that within 50 years the whole island will disappear because of rising sea-levels. BBC news shows us that (BBC News Asia, 2013) “All are low-lying, with no point on Tuvalu being higher than 4.5 meters above sea level.” Because of rising sea levels, people who are living in Tuvalu have to immigrate abroad. But, other countries, such as a New Zealand, are reluctant to accept them and even made a rule that they should be able to speak English.
Also, global warming changes weather patterns, so that global warming has had an effect on animals. A warmer ocean scientifically allows more energy to form storms or hurricanes, making them stronger than before. It makes animals in the future live with horrible weathers, and even some animals become extinct. As an example, warmer temperature makes more cloud. The more clouds there are, the more fungus grow, taking lots of frogs’ life. Also because of global warming, Ice in the Arctic is melting. If someone asks me whether that is a problem, I will definitely say yes. Melting ice means there will be less prey for polar bears. Polar bears’ main prey is seals, which usually use ice to take a rest. Therefore, without ice, there will be no seals in the world, and even there will be no polar bears all over the world.
In addition, the possibility of drought has risen due to global warming. During summer and fall, warmer temperature causes greater evaporation, increasing drought and exacerbating forest fires. Eventually, animals lose their shelter and it can be unavoidable to move to other areas while some animals lose their life (Natural Resources defense council, No date). What is even worse, global warming affects human beings as well as animals. If warm temperature makes the condition where coral cannot live, then fish will die. Human beings eat fish, and it accounts for seventy five percent of total fish catch. That is to say, there will be people who starve to death because of change of fish catch.
There are many factors causing global warming. One of the most risk factors responsible for global warming is CO2 released by cars that largely take responsibility for global warming. Also other catalysts such as methane which is from farming work or garbage, nitrous oxide released from composts, and deforestation that would stop plants from photosynthesizing are blamed for global warming. However, serious is that each gas has different heat-trapping abilities, so that we need to be careful to deal with those gases. According to IPCC (National geographic, N.D), Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
