Ethical Issues and Management-Manager as a Role Model

A Manager is an individual responsible for preparing and directing the work of a group of individuals. A manager also monitors the work of those assigned under him/her. Managers also take corrective action when necessary. Managers may also direct or assign others who direct the workers. Managers are viewed as the ones who get results through others. I like to think that a good manager attains positive results by making his group successful. Today, management is vital to all companies. Management helps corporations be more effective and more focused. A manager is defined as somebody who has control or direction of an institution or business (www.dictionary.com). In essence a manager is there to teach others how to do a good job.

A manager makes sure their employees maintain good business ethics and practice good ethical behavior in the workplace. A manager also sets new goals and makes sure they are met by holding daily, weekly and/or monthly meetings to educate the employees on their job. Managers are an important part when it comes to implementing new policies and procedures. Managers are also responsible for the quality of work from those employees assigned to him/her. A manager should be viewed as a role model in his/her company. Employees who are assigned to them should feel comfortable approaching their manager with any questions or concerns concerning their job. A good manager should always answer employee's questions completely and never minimize their concerns. Most importantly, managers should treat everyone equally and give positive recognition and appreciation for a job well done.

In this paper we will discuss ethical and moral issues faced by managers and how those issues have an effect on other people. We will also discuss the connection among social issues and ethical responsibility. In today's job market managers are responsible for mentoring employees to be great assets to the company by leading by example and by motivating people to learn from their mistakes. Managers are responsible for making sure that everything runs smoothly and making sure all goals are met. Managers have the power of helping their employees succeed. On the other hand they can also hold back an employee from succeeding. This moral issue can have an effect on the outcome of the employee's future with the company to either be successful or to not succeed in their job.

At my current job I was hired to be a Quality Control Manager for a national commercial cleaning company in the South Florida area. I had never worked doing this type of work and they had other managers working out of the corporate office with much more experience. Although I had no experience doing this type of work I have been very successful and managing people in the past and that was the experience I was relying on to do a good job. After being in this company for several months I started to notice many issues pertaining to the employee's attitude in the workplace. I watched at how managers
